Increase in COVID cases makes SP resume mandatory masks in public transport
The measure, which takes effect this Saturday (26), applies to buses, trains and subways; government recommends that all municipalities do the same.

O wearing a mask is once again mandatory on public transport in São Paulo starting this Saturday (26th), as announced by the state government and the São Paulo City Hall. The measure was taken due to the rise in the number of cases COVID-19 and the decision follows a technical analysis by the Management Council of the State Secretariat for Science, Research and Development in Health.
The decree with the new regulations will be published in the Official State Gazette this Friday (25th) and will apply to buses, trains and subways. On Tuesday (22), Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) had already decreed the mandatory mask in airports and planes.
“The government recommends that the measure be adopted by all municipalities in the state and reiterates that it is essential that the population is with the complete vaccination cycle to ensure greater protection against the coronavirus and reinforces that the only way to mitigate the effects of the virus is to guarantee immunization with the doses available at all health posts in the state”, says the state government, in a note.
The obligation to wear masks on public transport in the city of São Paulo returns just over two months after it fell, on September 9.
