Jô Soares: understand the cause of death of the presenter, who died in August of this year

Four months after his death, the çause of death of Jô Soares was released on Friday (23). According to Flávia Pedras Soares, his ex-wife, the presenter suffered renal insufficiency and cardiac insufficiency due to his obesity and heart problems.

Jô Soares died on August 5 of this year, aged 84, at the Sírio Libanês hospital, in São Paulo. According to the artist’s death certificate, which the Notícias da TV website had access to, the presenter also suffered from aortic stenosis it’s from atrial fibrillation.

Aortic stenosis is a narrowing of the aortic valve, which allows blood to flow from the left ventricle of the heart to the aorta and from there to the body. The condition makes the heart works harder to pump blood through the valve and may lead, over time, to heart failure.

Atrial fibrillation is a common type of cardiac arrhythmia, characterized by rapid and irregular heartbeats. As a result, blood is not pumped efficiently to the rest of the body, leading to symptoms such as weakness and fatigue. If left untreated, it can also develop into heart failure.

Kidney and heart failure: what are the symptoms and causes?

THE renal insufficiency can be divided into chronic and acute. The first case is characterized by slow, progressive, silent failure of kidney function. Consequently, there is an accumulation of fluids and waste in the body, affecting various functions of the body, such as blood pressure control, red blood cell production and Vitamin D levels.

The disease happens when another health condition impairs kidney function. As previously explained to MinhaVida by Carlos Machado, a general practitioner specializing in Preventive Medicine and a nephrologist, high blood pressure is one of the main causes of the disease. In addition, kidney failure is related to diabetes, polycystic kidney disease, recurrent kidney infection, autoimmune diseases, excessive use of analgesics, among other causes.

Already the acute renal failure it is the sudden loss of the ability of the kidneys to function properly, filtering wastes, salts and liquids from the blood. This condition is common in patients who are already admitted to the hospital for other reasons and can be fatal, requiring intensive care. The symptoms are: fluid retention, drowsiness, lack of hunger, shortness of breath, fatigue, confusion, nausea and vomiting.

Regarding heart failure, this is a disease in which the heart can no longer pump enough blood for the rest of the body. In Brazil, the most common cause is coronary artery disease (CAD), in which there is a narrowing of the coronary vessels, responsible for bringing oxygen to the heart muscle.

The condition can lead to symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath (during physical activity or long periods of rest), swelling of the feet and ankles, swelling of the abdomen, weight gain, irregular pulse, difficulty sleeping, fatigue, weakness, fainting, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, among others.

Also, high blood pressure, previous heart attacks, diabetes, sleep apnea, obesity, arrhythmia and alcohol consumption are some risk factors for heart failure. The treatment is done with the use of medications, such as antihypertensives, diuretics and vasodilators.
