The singer and participant of Big Brother Brasil 23, Marvvillarevealed that he was born with an anomaly called polydactyly. It is a congenital condition, that is, from birth, which can generate extra fingers or toesin addition to the regular five fingers.

During a conversation with confinement colleague Ricardo Camargo – “Alface” -, Marvvila explained that the finger was born on the side of his hand “hanging by a thread” and has a small nail and revealed that the condition affects his family. “I was born this way. Let’s go: my grandfather, my mother, my mother’s children, my mother’s sister, my mother’s sister’s seven children, my cousins, my cousins’ children. Very strong genetics ”, she said.

In addition, the singer explained that she had surgery to remove her finger, but that she still has a “tip” on her hand. “I was going to start before coming here. I hate it here, I was always ashamed, ”she said.

What is polydactyly and what are the causes?

A polydactyly is a congenital condition where a person has more than five fingers or toes. The term comes from the Greek “polys”, meaning many, and “daktus”, meaning “fingers”. Its manifestation can vary from case to case: the extra fingers can be fully developed or they can only have a skin bulge.

Possible causes of polydactyly are related to genetic mutation or a family inheritance. A person who has a parent with the condition has a 50% chance of being born with the condition. Those who have both parents with the anomaly have a 100% chance of being born with extra fingers.
